Volunteer Expectations Overview
Volunteering for ASPNC is an enjoyable and gratifying experience, but it also involves some responsibilities and training. We have a set of expectations in order to assure the safety and successful experience of our participants and the viability of our organization.
-
Volunteers must be willing to participate in activities with a diverse group of participants and fellow volunteers.

- All volunteers are required to attend orientation and diversity training.
- Activity volunteers are encouraged to attend as many activity-specific training sessions as possible. These will be made available before and during each season.
- Volunteers are expected to bring equipment andwear clothing appropriate to the activities in which they participate. For certain activities there will be a minimum equipment requirement.
- Volunteers are asked to participate in the annual volunteers’ fundraiser.
- Volunteers are encouraged to attend workshops and take certification exams to increase their level of knowledge and skill.
- Volunteers are asked to make time commitments at the beginning of each season (spring, summer, fall, winter). For example, a volunteer might be willing to participate in the Wednesday afternoon kayaking activity as well as the Friday morning hiking activity. It is understood that volunteers may be unable to attend every activity session, and it is important to let the director know about these absences as soon as possible.
- Volunteers must be willing to agree to a criminal background check.
- Volunteers will be expected to sign a “Service Description and Agreement” for each type of activity/service.
- Volunteers will be given a copy of the “Volunteer Handbook”. It is important to be familiar with the contents of this handbook.
- Volunteers must sign a “Release of Liability Form” as part of the volunteer application process.
- Volunteers will be asked to track and report their hours of volunteering.
